SpeakerChat for 05/29/20: Making Your Content Micro

Friday, May 29th is our fourth SpeakerChat in the 11am PT / 2pm ET time slot we typically use for GuildChat. This event is both a way to revisit some great Learning Guild content from a recorded session while also getting to connect live with the speaker to ask questions and dig even deeper into the topic, tools, and techniques from their session. And best of all, it’s also free.

So how does it work? There are two easy parts.

Part 1: Watch the session recording

All SpeakerChats will be themed around a highly-rated past Learning Guild session. We’ll open up access to the recording to everyone (you don’t have to be a Learning Guild member to watch in this time period!) about two weeks before the live event in a TWIST post like this one. You can watch at the times most convenient for you. We’ll also provide a time stamp listing of all the key parts of the recording so you can see what it covers and skim just what you need.

Part 2: Join us for the live event

We’ll then host a live discussion with the speaker that you can join in. The 60-minute live event will be your chance to ask any questions about the session topic that weren’t covered in the recording, pick the speaker’s brain for additional ideas and tips, or even take the discussion in some new directions.

You’ll need to register in advance and the link will always be here in TWIST. https://us02web.zoom.us/meeting/register/tZcvfu-vpz8iE9K_UB71DhlcFZiYjNN5D0a0

Our SpeakerChat guest is Carla Torgerson

On May 29th starting at 11am Pacific / 2pm Eastern we’ll be talking about microlearning with Carla Torgerson. The concept of microlearning has been a popular one over recent years, but what it actually is and how to design and develop high-quality examples of it hasn’t always been as clear. Carla’s recorded session talked about 4 different ways to use microlearning effectively and 5 formats in which you can create it. In the live chat Carla will go into even more detail about the design and development of strong shorter-form experiences and also talk about how to use microlearning approaches strategically so you can get the most from them.

Start getting ready by watching Carla’s recorded session Making Your Content Micro.

Jump to the content you need with this list of time stamps

14:05 - what is microlearning 18:50 - 4 uses of microlearning 24:55 - group activity applying this concept to your work -- real examples of these 4 ways from participants' work 37:46 - 5 formats of microlearning 42:32 - 20 ways to go micro (and participants applying this to their work) 45:40 - examples of microlearning (aligned to the 20 ways)

Then join Carla live on Zoom on May 29th to find out more about what great microlearning looks like today and ask her about any questions that came up for you when watching the recording.
