#GuildChat for 12/13/19: Learning from Practice

Our next #GuildChat takes place Friday, December 13th at 11am PT / 2pm ET. This week’s chat is on Learning from Practice.

Thanks to Anthony Altieri for coming up with this week’s topic! We love suggestions from the community!

Practice can come in many forms as well as length and detail. Not all are always possible but the value of practice is unquestionable.

In this week’s #GuildChat we explore the impact of practice, how much is needed, and when and why does it have the most impact? Have you designed practice activities? What have you learned from the experience? What about being immersed in actual work? How do we best extract what we’ve learned from “doing” for the benefit of others?

These are just some of the questions that come to mind. Join us this week to share and learn from the community at large!

Prospective questions:

Q1 There are lots of different ways to give people an opportunity to practice. What should you consider to help you narrow down which options are best for a particular situation?
Q2 What can help you find that sweet spot of enough practice that a person can perform a skill with the necessary competence, but not waste time on unnecessary practice beyond that point?
Q3 VR presents an opportunity for realistic practice in a safe environment. As this technology continues to develop, how do you see it’s current state and future evolution impacting how we can use VR for L&D?
Q4 How does a person’s current expertise with a topic/skill influence the kinds of practice you give them?
Q5 It’s probably happened to everyone – you practice something, but it turns out what you learned was wrong. What can you do to correct things when this happens?
Q6 What should you do when practice doesn’t seem to be improving a skill the way it was supposed to?
Q7 What are the pros and cons of practicing with others?
Q8 Practice takes time, but not every organization or client may be on board initially with that time investment. How can you convince someone who wants to speed along that practice is necessary?
