#GuildChat for 5/24/19: The State of Games for Learning

Our next #GuildChat takes place Friday, May 24th at 11am PT / 2pm ET. Our topic for this week’s chat is The State of Games for Learning.

Games and Gamification has risen in attention over the past few years. With both psychology and technology behind it the approach to improve performance in organizations took off. Like many things that have a meteoric rise, expectations can get quite inflated and after the initial hype and euphoria wears off people are left wondering if this truly an impactful approach.


This week we talk about the state of games in and for organizational learning. What have we learned so far? What is really working and what can we take away and use in other learning solutions? Join us as we explore these and other questions on #GuildChat.


Prospective questions:

Q1. Great games are hard to put down. What can we learn from games about getting and keeping people’s attention?
Q2. A key part of a game is the idea of fun, but what is and isn’t fun can be subjective. What steps can you take to ensure the audience you’re designing for will enjoy the game you’ve created?
Q3. What else can we learn from games that can help improve our non-game based L&D solutions?
Q4. The hype around learning games led to some projects that didn’t work as planned. What lessons should L&D take away from learning games that didn’t succeed in their goals?
Q5. Often Stakeholders will be resistant to game-based learning solutions because of the connotation they evoke. How can you help them get past this barrier?
Q6. What’s some advice you’d have for an organization that’s been burned in the past by a game-based approach that didn’t work?
Q7. If you’re trying to get inspiration for creating an engaging and effective game for learning, what are some games you should try out?
Q8. Who or where should people turn to to learn more about games for learning?
