GuildChat_LogoPerformance Consulting took off in the early 2000’s as an answer to the need to expand learning and development’s effectiveness. Wikipedia defines it as:

“…more of a systems-thinking approach to resolving workplace performance problems. …acknowledges that there are other environmental factors that affect one’s performance. …[and] takes a more systems-thinking approach to investigate and identify other environmental factors that may degrade one’s performance.”

Many in L&D recognize that not all performance issues are caused by a lack of knowledge or skill and therefore resolved by training solutions. The work environment, hiring practices and motivational issues can often be the problem to be addressed. However, traditional belief about the role of L&D conflicts with newer way of approaching organizational performance issues.

In this week’s #GuildChat we will look closer at Performance Consulting in practice, how one in L&D makes the shift, the best entry points and ways that one can over come resistance to a somewhat foreign approach to resolving performance problems in organizations.
