#GuildChat for 09/09/16: Back to School!

Our next #GuildChat takes place Friday, September 9 at 11AM PT/2PM ET. This week we’re looking closer at K-12 education and what the world of L&D can learn from it.

We all, to some extent, have experienced K-12 education. For most we learned early on about the impact (positive and negative) it can have and some, including your #GuildChat hosts, have been on the opposite side of the classroom as teachers themselves.

In this week’s #GuildChat we recognize the annual event of the start of school. We’ll talk about what K-12 Education (the process, the programs, the planning and the environment) can “teach” L&D. Specifically we will examine what works, what doesn’t and the comparisons and contrasts to organizational learning. Join us for a look back at our own educational experiences and a study of K-12 today as an influence of the learning industry.

Prospective questions:

Q1. How do you describe to someone the difference between training and educating?
Q2. What lessons from K12 context have you taken into your role as an organizational learning professional?
Q3. K12 experiences can stick with us years later. What’s one positive experience you had in school that’s shaped your work?
Q4. What’s one example of something you learned about how NOT to teach from your own K12 experience?
Q5. K12 and L&D often share a lack of or small budgets. What can we learn from teachers about working with minimal resources?
Q6. How are schools similar or different than workplace organizations?
Q7. How is increased technology use in K12 impacting organizational learning?
Q8. What lessons do you think K12 could learn from L&D?
