Let’s face it, most New Year’s resolutions are a bust from the onset or maybe start off strong and then fizzle out. Remember that gym membership last year? Right.

Maybe the issue isn’t in having goals but the types of goals we set for ourselves and our approach to achieving them.

We were inspired by this post from Sonia Simone of Copy Blogger. Take a look at 3 New Kinds of Goals to Consider for 2019. We thought we might explore goals, goal setting, and the idea of setting new kinds of goals just might lead to the change we want to see in our careers in 2019.

Join us this week as we take a different spin on the New Year’s Resolution and tap into the L&D community for their ideas and approaches to setting and achieving big (and not so big) goals in 2019!

Prospective questions:

Q1. Most people fail at their New Year’s resolutions – why is that?
Q2. When you think back on the goals you’ve met in the past, what in particular helped you meet them?
Q3. The article that inspired this topic talked about setting goals about how you want to think, including adopting a growth mindset. What are some practical ways to actually accomplish this?
Q4. The article also talked about changing how you decide to feel (or not feel) about things. What are some ways shifting your feelings and reactions can help in the workplace?
Q5. Often to achieve what we want we need to create more space in our lives. To reach your goals, what are you willing to give up, things that don’t directly contribute to your goal?
Q6. Much of our work in L&D focuses on solving problems. What business problems AREN’T on your plate but you wish they were in 2019?
Q7. We often talk about goals in terms of things we want to achieve or do more of. What are some professional things you’re aiming to avoid or DO LESS of this year?
Q8. Thinking about the goals you set may require certain types of people to help you achieve them. What do you need in others to help you meet your goals for 2019?
