#GuildChat for 03/16/18: The Importance of Culture

Our next #GuildChat takes place Friday, March 16 at 11am PT / 2pm ET. Our topic for this week’s chat is The Importance of Culture.

The beliefs and behaviors (conscious or unconscious) of employees in an organization make up the organization’s culture. Many believe that culture plays the biggest role in the success of various initiatives be those external such as a new line of business or internal such as the adoption of new technologies or processes. How about in learning and training?

In this week’s #GuildChat we’ll explore the idea behind a learning culture. Can one truly exist? What does it look like? Does your organization have the right make-up or are their barriers today? Finally, How would a true learning culture impact the organization and the role of L&D?

Prospective questions:

Q1. How do you describe organizational culture to someone? What is it?
Q2. Since culture is driven by beliefs, what beliefs are important for learning to be a prominent activity in an organization?
Q3. What do the day-to-day activities in a learning and performance (L&P) culture look like?
Q4. What should L&D’s role be in contributing to, reinforcing, and/or shifting an organization’s culture?
Q5. How might a healthy L&P culture impact the role of L&D?
Q6. Shifting culture isn’t easy. If an organization doesn’t have a strong L&P culture but wants to, what are some changes you’d suggest?
Q7. Culture is communicated socially. Knowing this, what can organizations do to reinforce a healthy culture of learning?
Q8. What about an organization’s culture can actually get in the way of encouraging learning and performance?
