#GuildChat for 05/05/17: At the Movies

Our next #GuildChat takes place Friday, May 5th at 11AM PT/2PM ET. This week’s topic is At the Movies.

Film is a medium that can inspire and educate. Like a good book we can be swept away by great story, brilliant acting and breathtaking scenery and amazing graphics.  Film has evolved greatly since its beginnings and become one of the largest industries in the world, one that can’t be ignored. We can and do learn a great deal through film including how various elements are used to influence emotions and build connection and in many cases, change behavior.

In this week’s #GuildChat we are going to the movies! Our discussion will bridge the gap between learning and film and how the art and science of film can and does influence our work in organizations.

Think about film, the techniques, genres, roles in writing, directing and acting and how these find their way’s in our learning and development efforts. And of course, think about those films that have “moved” you and what you can draw from this experience to impact our solutions.

See you Friday!

Prospective question:

Q1. You’re stuck on an island (w/ a DVD player/TV of course) and only can bring 1 movie with you. Which would it be and why?
Q2. What’s a movie that’s influenced the video content you create? In what ways?
Q3. What are some ways, other than video production, that film has influenced your learning solutions?
Q4. Most directors have films or other directors who’ve inspired their work. What are your biggest film influences and why?
Q5. How do you balance the expectations of entertainment w/ the need for viewers to learn specific content in video development?
Q6. What can the worst movies you’ve ever seen teach you about making better films yourself?
Q7. How might you use different genres for different purposes such as safety training, onboarding, etc?
Q8. What are movies you might point someone to if they want to create better films for learning?
