This Man Will Change the Way You Play Board Games by Nicholas Hune-Brown
There’s a lot of interest in the learning and performance space exploring the use of games for learning. What’s even more interesting, is that within the games industry, the very definition of what comprises a “board game” is evolving. This article examines the ways board games are changing, and it also provides a glimpse into the design of a game, and the iterative process of game development. -David Kelly

This Wild Picture of Obama Wearing a VR Headset Explains Everything by Ian Bogost
I share this post for two reasons. First, it’s yet another highly visible example of virtual reality approaching the mainstream. More importantly, the article places the potential emergence of VR into a historical context, examining the path from trend to mainstream other visual mediums have taken. After reading this article, you will wonder – will VR be normalized to be as invisible to us as a pane of glass? -David Kelly

There’s a lot of talk about how the web continues to evolve, with most of the discussions centered on the emergence of the Semantic Web. But what is the Semantic Web and what does it’s emergence mean for elearning? This post does a great job of succinctly answering both of those questions in a way that can help elearning professionals put the future if the web into the context of our work. -David Kelly

Twitter: The newest teacher for twenty first century writers via Science Daily
I’ve always felt that working within the strict 140-character limit to a tweet has made me a better writer. The constraint makes you evaluate your messages to ensure clarity. This article explores recent research that explores the use of Twitter to teach people about the world of creative writing, not just for the writing itself, but as a platform to engage the new world of publishing. It’s a great example of acknowledging how new platforms are changing the world we know, and making adjustments to adapt “what is” to the world of the future. -David Kelly

Creating a Company Video That Actually Tells a Story by Lou Hoffman
Most of us have seen the typical corporate video. It conveys a lot of information about the company, and it might even have great production values, but at the same time, something is lacking about it. Many times what’s lacking is the story. This post explores how to transform corporate videos through story, and features a great example and interview with the filmmakers.-David Kelly

Can VR Really Make You More Empathetic? by Sarah Zhang
The most compelling use case of VR for learning is the ability for virtual reality to put someone into a different place. While most of the use cases explore that idea of place literally – such as taking a virtual field trip to the Great Wall of China – another less-literal example of place is to put the learner into someone else’s shoes. That’s what this article is exploring, as it examines the ability of VR to teach empathy by creating VR programs that enable people to participate in an experience from another person’s point of view. -David Kelly
