Long before elearning, training or the classroom dominated conversation on how people learn and where, there was story.  It’s been argued that human-beings are built for story. 10,000 years of emotion rich narratives conveyed ideas and knowledge from one to another or from group to group.

In this week’s GuildChat we look at the importance of story, the science behind it and how it has been reborn in the learning community as a tool to once again help grow understanding and skills.  Join us this Friday as we weave some tales that will be sure to inspire your own story making efforts.

Prospective questions:

Q1. What makes storytelling such an effective tool for the work we do?
Q2. What are the elements of a great story?
Q3. How have you used storytelling successfully in your own projects?
Q4. Is storytelling effective for all content? Why or why not?
Q5. When have you seen storytelling fall flat in learning? Why didn’t it work?
Q6. How does your audience shape what stories you tell and how you tell them?
Q7 Where do you look for storytelling inspiration?

Missed the chat? Don’t worry – you can still read through what happened on Storify.
A big thanks to Michelle Johnson for creating this week’s Storify!

The eLearning Guild has always looked to the community to form the conversations around learning and technology. We’ve taken it a step further however and created a rotating group of  voluntary #GuildChat Advisors! Each Advisor is selected for their unique perspectives and involvement in the the conversations around the learning industry. For a 6 month period they will help formulate the topics and questions for our weekly chat. Have an idea for #GuildChat? Reach out to @britz or any of the current advisors!
