The eLearning Guild Podcast: Annie Murphy Paul on Learning Beyond the Myths

Welcome to The eLearning Guild Podcast, where we chat with members of the Guild Community exploring current trends in learning, performance, and technology.

2016-02-23_10-01-18In this episode I chat with author and journalist Annie Murphy Paul. Annie is the closing keynote at the 2016 Learning Solutions Conference and Expo taking place March 16 – 18 in Orlando Florida. In our conversation, we discuss the the science behind how we learn, the research that is driving an explosion of understanding, and some of the myths that people believe about learning.

Here are a few highlights from our conversation:

These days we all have to be learning all the time…

There’s been … a virtual explosion of research in the cognitive sciences and psychology about how we learn.

I’m particularly interested in a line of research called the extended mind, which is looking at how we incorporate our tools, our digital devices … into our thinking process.

I think that we can create occasions for talking about our differences and peoples’ work styles and temperaments with without resorting to these [personality] tests which aren’t scientifically supported.
