#GuildChat for 02/12/16: Onboarding Strategy for Success

Our next #GuildChat takes place Friday, February 12 at 11am PT / 2pm ET. Our topic for this week’s chat is all about onboarding.GuildChat_Logo

One organizational effort where L&D is often called upon is in the design and delivery of onboarding efforts for new employees.  The duration, the focus and the delivery of onboarding can take different forms based on the perceived importance of the activity and the nature of the work and workforce.

Regardless, some level of onboarding of new employees happens at each organization and success can very greatly due to the roles involved and the focus of the effort.  Is one-n-done boot camp style sufficient? What role do managers and executives play? How is success being measured and limited resources being allocated to bring the new hire up to speed and feeling they made the right decision to take the job?

Join us this Friday to learn from the community the perspectives and approaches to onboarding success and share your own ideas around the questions asked.

Perspective questions:

Q1. What are the basic elements/activities of any onboarding program?
Q2. What would you like to see more of/less of in onboarding programs?
Q3. What are the biggest challenges you have seen in making onboarding successful?
Q4. How do you personalize the onboarding experience to account for existing knowledge/skill?
Q5. How do you engage new employees in onboarding before Day 1?
Q6. How do you balance employee needs with operational demands during onboarding?
Q7. What technologies have you leveraged in onboarding programs? Why?
Q8. What resources do you recommend to aid in creating an onboarding program?

The eLearning Guild has always looked to the community to form the conversations around learning and technology. We’ve taken it a step further however and created a rotating group of  voluntary #GuildChat Advisors! Each Advisor is selected for their unique perspectives and involvement in the the conversations around the learning industry. For a 6 month period they will help formulate the topics and questions for our weekly chat. Have an idea for #GuildChat? Reach out to @britz or any of the current advisors!
