#GuildChat for 09/04/15: Learning Through the Eyes of a Child
Our next #GuildChat takes place Friday, September 4 at 11am PT / 2pm ET. Our topic for this week’s chat is Learning Through the eyes of a Child.
For many it’s that time of year. Summer in the Northern Hemisphere is coming to an end and children begin to prepare for the start of the school year. For some children it is exciting. For others it is a dreaded event. For parents or guardians it can be a similar mix of excitement or sadness. After the initial “shock” wears off, the the formal, informal and social learning really begins.
This week, in honor of this annual ritual, we will explore learning through the eyes of a child. Children possess the curiosity, exposure to new situations, new environments, new people and problems, and process it all with little prior experience to build on. Children have a unique perspective on life and the world they are in that adults can never truly regain. They also explore uninhibited and face failure, at least when they are very young, with nothing more than a shrug.
What can we learn from child-like approaches to learning? How can we regain even some of the fearlessness and curiosity they possess? How and why did we lose it in the first place?
We’ll explore these and other questions related to learning and the elements of childhood.
