Introducing The eLearning Guild’s Newest Team Member: Mark Britz

There’s a lot that goes into the planning of an event like an eLearning Guild Conference. If my time with the Guild has taught me anything, it’s that the work that goes into planning events like DevLearn, Learning Solutions, mLearnCon, and other events is more than a one-person job. And as our events continue to grow, the need to bring more hands to help with the planning and execution has becomes ever more urgent.

In truth this expansion of the programming team has been on the radar for over a year – a year filled with increasingly long hours and weekend work to get everything done that helps create the “Guild Experience” that sets our events apart from others in the industry.

If my goal in bringing on a new team member was simply to find someone that could execute on the tasks that need to be completed related to our events, I could have easily filled this role months ago. But I was looking for more. I was looking for someone that could help foster the conversation.

The eLearning Guild Conversation

You see, I view everything we do at the Guild as part of an ongoing conversation, from our face-to-face and online events to Learning Solutions Magazine, Guild Academy, our new Learning Exchange and beyond. At the eLearning Guild we believe we are better together than we are alone, and everything we do is about bringing members together to share, connect, and learn from each other.

When it comes to our face-to-face events, the programs that we build form the bones around which these conversations take place. That’s not a responsibility we take lightly. As such, it wasn’t enough that the person we bring on be able to execute the tasks related to our events; this person needs to be able to participate in shaping the conversation.

And I’m pleased to be welcoming a new member to the eLearning Guild team that can do just that: Mark Britz.

Welcome Mark Britz to the eLearning Guild Team

Mark is already an active member of the industry community. Many of you may know Mark from his activity on Twitter (@britz) where he regularly shares and connects with others. He’s one of the moderators of the popular weekly Twitter Chat #lrnchat, is a frequent speaker at industry events, and regularly writes on his personal blog Learning Zealot.

Mark has been working in learning and development for over 15 year as both a designer and manager of learning and development departments for organizations such as Smartforce, KnowedgeNet, Pearson Digital Learning, The SUNY Research Foundation, Aspen Dental Management, and Systems Made Simple. Mark’s efforts have altered conventional beliefs about organizational learning, and have helped organizations improve execution, increase agility, and embrace emerging technologies.

Above all what excites me about adding Mark to our team is the shared passion we have for the work that we do, and the potential that exists within our industry. Mark’s passions and focus perfectly match the eLearning Guild’s core value: Together We Are Better. I’m excited about adding Mark to the team, and to adding his perspectives and passion to the team that will take our face-to-face events to even greater heights.
